**Reflection: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awareness Professional Certificate**
Together with my DEI e-portfolio, I came to the realization that my knowledge and skill in DEI area is far behind. I may be theoretic ally conversant with some principles, but I trusted that my hands-on grasp on how to channel them into real practice in a business setting was still at a developing stage. This moment led from my previous professional positions being unable to create a proper place that would be diversified when it comes to gender, race, disabilities, and other similar aspects. I chose Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awareness Professional Certificate to fill in the gaps of my knowledge, thinking that this program which focuses on developing the needed awareness would provide me with the required expertise and practical tools.
As much as I learned through the course was more than just knowing the difference between equity and equality. The equity concept connected with me as it illustrated a fair sharing of opportunities and resources to bring about an even terrain and this is something which is not captured by the equal concept which highlights equal distribution. I discovered that establishing equity in the organizations depends on having mindfulness nurturing along with structural changes.
The course guided through the practical framework of acknowledging and addressing the inequality within the workplace, which allowed me to realize that even the well-rounded policies can sustain the differences. I found out that I was expecting to learn about the urgent actions that can be implemented right now to attempt to achieve equity goals while the course focused more on the long term strategies and shift in culture.
Within this term, I grew in many essential aspects, especially: Firstly, I gained the capability of scrutinizing workplace policies through the prism of equity and detecting biases that may possibly result in an unequal and disparate treatment among colleagues. In addition, I went to learn how work to promote equitable hiring processes where different talents and experiences are appreciated.
Maybe, one thing that I learned was how I could relate principles of DEI with business strategy, as well as see how equity can bring the organization to experience better performance through diverse workforce and friendly environment. It has been a surprise for me to found out that I was expecting to learn about the urgent actions that can be implemented right now to attempt to achieve equity goals while the course focused more on the long term strategies and shift in culture.
All in all, the Professional Certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awareness turned to be the most effective tool in my education process during the course on application of DEI in the work setting. Gave me the opportunity to enrich my e-portfolio with the practical values and evidence of my continued desire to promote equity both in the workplace and as well as in the future career path as an advocate for diversity and inclusion.
