Privacy Policy

This page explains what information StudyMuddy collects, how that information is used, and the choices available to users of the service.

Effective date: April 21, 2026

By creating an account, uploading files, or using the public library, you acknowledge that your information may be processed as described in this policy.

Information we collect

We collect the information you provide directly, including account details such as your name, email address, password-based sign-in data, and profile image when available.

When you upload content, we store the files you submit, file metadata, generated previews, OCR or extracted text artifacts, document descriptions, categories, and moderation or approval records tied to that content.

If you submit a copyright or abuse report, or email our copyright inbox, we may store the report details, related email content, headers, attachments, and operational review records connected to that notice.

If you submit the contact form, we store the contact details and message content needed to review, triage, and respond to your request.

We also store product activity data needed to operate the service, including reading progress, favorites, reactions, document view records, and basic technical request information used for reliability and security.

How we use information

We use your information to create and secure your account, authenticate sign-in, store and display your uploads, generate previews and extracted text, and provide core document workspace features.

We use activity and operational data to improve search, diagnose failures, prevent abuse, review uploads, enforce platform rules, and understand how the service is being used.

If a document is approved for public visibility, its title, description, category, preview data, and other approved public-facing content may be displayed to visitors and indexed by search engines.

How information is shared

Public documents and related approved metadata can be shown to other users and visitors. Private or unapproved documents are not intended for public display.

We may rely on third-party infrastructure providers for hosting, authentication, database, storage, email, and related technical operations. Those providers process data only as needed to run the service.

We may disclose information if required to comply with law, protect the service, investigate abuse, or enforce our terms and security requirements.

Cookies and session data

We use cookies, session tokens, and similar storage mechanisms to keep you signed in, remember viewer-related preferences, support security controls, and maintain normal site functionality.

Some product behavior also depends on local browser storage or device context, such as reader state and interface preferences.

Data retention

We retain account data, uploaded content, derived previews, extracted text, and operational records for as long as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce platform policies.

Rights-report submissions, direct rights-report emails, stored attachments, and related review records may be retained as operational or legal records where needed to review claims, respond to notices, or enforce platform rules.

If you delete content or your account access changes, some information may remain in backups, logs, moderation records, or system archives for a limited period where operationally necessary.

Your choices

You can manage certain account and document information from the product interface, including deleting documents you own when that option is available.

If you want to request account-related assistance or have a privacy question, contact us using the contact page or email below.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure.

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for using the platform in a way that does not expose sensitive information unintentionally.

Policy updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date above.
