The video "Why Global Supply Chains May Never Be the Same" gives the audience an informative summary of the disarrays observed in global supply networks; such were encountered during the Covid period is most remarkable. It starts by recognizing consumer angers on shortages and delays of daily items for example PS consoles and kettlebells which may sound like a punchline to a long drama with long exposure of supply chains. After that, the narrative rolls into different entities of the supply chain. This include container vessels traveling from manufacturers in Asia to consumers in the U.S., the role of ports like Los Angeles and Long Beach, and the work of truck drivers and c warehous e workers. The significance of the technological innovations in healthcare and growth sectors is really considered, thus ensuring the numberless issues and one the one hand – the amazing demand that a supply chain was unable to process.
In my view, the video is effective in representing the complicated processes which are often hidden. In contrast to the simplicity of online purchases that consumers are used to, my impression is a surprise thorough demonstration of all the processes that is hidden behind the online stores. It is one of the main strengths of the book to show in detail the human and technological steps required to be able to organize fast and worldwide shipping. This dimension makes the reader feel the full picture of what is needed to be done for the achievement of fast and global shipping. On the other hand, this weakness is presented in the form of how the system could not suggest or yield solutions that can be made in order to curb the situation in the next years to come. Although this video clearly presents the challenges, it leaves viewers with a perception about the inevitability of problems of such magnitude, rather than discussing any of the major strategic changes and policy interventions that might address the future occurrence of comparable situations. This may, therefore, simply encourage viewers' sense of helplessness concerning the threats that could emerge from this vulnerability within the global supply chains.
