Candidate Numbers: 27 , 39 , 47

Topic: Disease and Health

Aim: To raise awareness about severity of Thalassemia and raise funds to support pre-existing organizations in this cause

We compiled a video documentary as our final outcome , the video is 3 minutes 43 seconds and covers our progress throughout the project . Firstly we have talked about the basic information about the disorder that many people were unaware of , through the online surveys we conducted . Secondly, for cultural perspectives , we explored Pakistan and Turkiye respectively . For Turkiye we went through data compiled by HCP (Healthcare Provider) to assess the effect of legislations implemented in order to register births on thalassemia cases , as pre-screening was done on a greater scale to diagnose if the parents have the disorder or how likely is the offspring to inherit it . We shared this data in a tabulated form using pictographs for audience engagement on our social media platform . Secondly, to discover Pakistan’s perspective we interviewed Dr.Fauzia . She clarified that newborns are victims of the disorder in Pakistan and that there’s a general misconception people have between anemia and thalassemia This helped us analyze that consisten efforts are being made by government in Turkey to reduce Thalassemia disorder whereas in Pakistan lacks a coordination between NGOs and government schemes to work on such a disease . However if the government adopts a similar strategy which it did for dengue and covid , thalassemia rate can be countered .A clear comparison was drawn to spread awareness among people worldwide and seeing both countries experience a higher rate of thalassemia , we worked on strengthening pre-existing hospitals offering treatments for disorders . Thus for this we organized an in school campaign and collected 7,500 to send to Sundas Foundation Lahore . This surely helped to build healthcare gaps as patients were facilitated and when we conducted a second survey many responses declared that they got to know about the disorder through our campaign .
