Evaluating the Project Outcome
I think that our team was quite successful in the campaign of raising awareness about food wastage. It all started when our team first conducted a survey on privileged teenage students to get their opinions on the issue. We asked questions like “what do you think is the major reason for food wastage in households?” and “what can be done to reduce food wastage?” to which the majority replied “leftovers” and effective government policies which restrict the amount of food a family can buy in a fixed time.So our team worked hard in making pamphlets and posters and distributing them individually and also putting them on notice boards in school to make a solid impact. However, our team faced challenges in visiting unprivileged schools due to permission issues and family commitments which led to miscommunication and lack of coordination. This problem affected the efficiency of our project outcome as we were unable to collect this cultural perspective physically. To tackle this issue,we took responses of people from different cities, online of both privileged and unprivileged residents which were extremely helpful for us in establishing our project outcome.Reflecting on this, realistic timelines of doing work would have helped a lot.
Evaluating Own Work Process
Throughout my research journey,I had access to sufficient and relevant sources of information online which helped me complete my tasks assigned to me by the group leader.I always saw other global perspective students using techniques like making graphs, setting up tables and using various colors to highlight specific information in their diaries which made them score a good grade in the initial assessment.By applying similar strategies,I was able eliminate many of my hesitation and confusion problems. However, due to ineffective work schedule,I was unable to meet the deadlines of many of my tasks which affected my initial assessment marks and dropped my confidence. My own work process would have been much better if I would have given the same amount of time to global perspective as I dedicated to other subjects.
When it comes down to talking about our teamwork, each group member
contributed towards the team’s progress. As without the input of every
member, the team can not achieve success. All 4 of us put our roles in making
and conducting of the survey, building and distributing of the pamphlets and
spreading awareness through posters.Every team member also participated in
maintaining the team diary which helped us shape our project outcome. The
benefit of working in a team was that as we communicated with many people, our
confidence was raised and our social anxiety was reduced. However,we were
unable to stick to our work plans as we planned to visit underprivileged schools
but were unable to do so due to unrealistic work timelines. This affected the
efficiency of our project outcome as we were unable to collect that cultural
perspective physically. The difficulty of working in a team was that we had to
make strict schedules which were hard to follow and we could hardly make
anytime for other things as the burden of other subjects also played a part.
Reflecting on Performance as a Team Member
Continuing from the team work,my performance as an individual could not shine
up to its potential as I became the part of this team quite late and got to
understand the topic and settle in the group a lot later but due to the help of a
friend in the team,I was able to cope up with the team’s progress. Our team was
lacking behind in maintaining the team diary so I shared my previous team’s
diary with my group members. This helped us organize things to avoid
confusion.Hence,we were able to complete our diaries just in time before the
deadline. The problem that my team had to face because of me was that I took
tasks which I was unable to do within the time that I told which created issues for
our team in submitting our work on time and caused a lot of verbal conflicts and
tensions as well.Eventually the issues were solved due to mutual coordination
and consultation.
Reflecting on Learning from Different Cultural Perspectives
From different cultural perspectives,I learnt that food wastage does not only lead
to hunger problems but also causes millions of deaths every year and also
contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and loss of natural resources (1) The
world is already suffering from harmful effects of issues like global warming so
there is no other option then to “stop food wastage”.People who are privileged
to
buy their groceries in large amounts and hence they prepare large meals that go to waste as they admit that the main reason for food wastage is leftovers and then say that government should limit food buying instead of stopping themselves from doing that.(2) Meanwhile, underprivileged families struggle to even afford 2 meals a day which is a prime example of inequality.(4) They say that government should introduce such job opportunities from which they can at least feed their family which is a valid point..From this,I learnt that as eating food is a necessity for humans either privileged or underprivileged, the rich ones should stop exploiting their wealth while the governments should think of their needy people and help them.
Reflecting on Overall Learning
Overall, this project was a bit challenging for me because I usually prefer individual tasks over teamwork. However, working in a team made me realize that working in a team is completely different from working individually as you need to interact with every team member, listento what they say and then make a decision. It also helped me realize the importance of having a schedule to do tasks as it improves efficiency.I also realized that I am good at organizing things and discussions while my weaknesses were that at times I found myself working alone, not communicating with my teammates. It is very important for me to work on this issue and find a practical solution for it.
