The chapter articulates self-esteem to be "an individual's subjective evaluation of her/his/their abilities and limitations." It adds the critical importance of the knowledge of one's abilities and limitations and how that factor into self-esteem. The communication on self-esteem indicates the reciprocal nature of the two elements. Our self-esteem determines how we communicate with others and in that same vein; our communication with others determines our self-esteem. Moreover, the Self Compassion section will shed light on how to deal with negative self-talk, and in that process, foster self-esteem. It is about being kind to oneself, realizing common humanity, and being mindful. This is alongside the idea of challenging the negative self-perceptions and developing a positive self-image.
