Deciding on one's career is one of the most essential matters that can have an impact on the course of one's professional life. Having watched the Candid Career videos, I was drawn to the position of Production Manager and found it to be a very exciting career possibility. A Production Manager supervises all the steps involved in the manufacturing of a product, from taking in materials to the final version of the product. They are in charge of ensuring that the production line functions properly and effectively and that the established quality standards are met.

The production manager's work involves different parts of the production process. They are involved in planning and scheduling the production process, managing resources (including staff, machines, and materials), monitoring quality control measures, and introducing permanent improvements in method and organization. Besides, they are a critical pillar in the enforcement of safety laws and regulations up to environmental standards.

The main reason which attracted me to this career is the opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The videos illustrated the fact that the manufacturing industry is an ever-changing domain where a Production Manager has to master the use of new technologies, streamline the processes, and tackle the dynamic changes in market demands. This part resonated with me as a person who likes to be involved with an ever-changing and dynamic team. The videos also accentuated the role of decisive leadership and communicative abilities of Production Managers. In order to succeed, they must work together with the different departments, including engineering, quality control, and materials, to make sure everything flows smoothly. This element reverberated with me as I am passionate about working in a group setting and leading teams to realize common objectives.

If I were to consider pursuing a career as a Production Manager, there are several steps I would take. For instance, a majority of production manager jobs necessitate a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or operations management. Studying a course that combines technical knowledge with business and management essentials will be a crucial factor. It will also be important to secure internships and co-op opportunities. Acquiring practical skills via internships or co-op programs in manufacturing plants would be a great opportunity. Immersion in this process will give me real hands-on experience, allowing me to cultivate pertinent skills and gain insight into the industry. Certifications from organizations such as the Association for Operational Management (APICS) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ) would help build my credibility and show my dedication to continuing learning in that particular area.
