What skills have you learned this semester that you will use once you graduate in your personal or professional life? Could you give a few examples?
In the communication course for this semester, I have learned a variety of skills that I feel will help me greatly in my personal and professional lives after leaving school. The particular task I focused on was critique essays where I learnt to use such aspects as emotional appeals, ethos, pathos, accuracy and relevance in presentation. This has made me a more effective communicator in different settings by enabling me to make more persuasive arguments. One of the main abilities that I have gained is efficiency in written communication. Through discussions and other assignments in the critique essays, I have enhanced my writing ability to be able to put forth ideas with simplicity and brevity. By integrating emotional appeals and making sure that my presentations are accurate and relevant.
What did you learn about yourself as a writer and communicator this semester? How will you use this learning once you graduate?
Once I graduate, I am going to use this knowledge and skills in improving myself personally as well as professionally. In my professional career, I will apply these new skills in writing and communication in order to be more successful with tasks of effective communications for example drafting reports, giving presentations, interacting with clients or even with colleagues. With these strategies like emotional appeals, ethos, pathos, accuracy and relevance when communicating them to others either at work or elsewhere will help foster stronger relationships that would create positive influence over others thereby making it possible for one to achieve success in different professional areas.
If you had to repeat this course, what would you do differently to help you get through the course more effectively?
I will spend more time in learning techniques on writing a critique essays. To navigate the course more effectively and have maximum learning outcomes, I believe that it is possible to do so by implementing these strategies including better timing, maintaining a constant commitment with course materials, asking for clarification when necessary, utilizing more available sources of information and thinking positively. The ability of reflecting on past experiences and identifying areas to improve will enable me approach the course with a more proactive and strategic mindset thereby enhancing my overall learning experience.
What advice would you give a new student in the course to help set them up for success?
Organize your personal life and study time. It involves prioritizing personal organization by making a timetable of study, getting involved in conversations and practical applications that concern coursework to get information on how they work, refining skills through feedback from educators and colleagues, employing extra materials
