Key issue: Problems of Orphans

Aim: Raise awareness and address the issues of faced by orphans when it comes to their needs and society

Explanation: Our outcome was to put up flyers (given below) all over our school explaining our cultural perspectives as we found out through our primary research (surveys) that people lack awareness about the issues orphans face. After putting up flyers, we also collected funds for this organization “Mera Ghar Orphanage” as we learned from our secondary research that most of the orphanages in Pakistan do not have the funds or resources to give a good and safe environment to orphans, so we found an organization which needed our help and we managed to collect 77k though our goal was 50k. Our cultural perspective was of Pakistan, India and USA but we only mentioned Pakistan and India in our flyer. We conducted surveys as part of our primary research, which was also our local perspective of Pakistan, to gather different opinions within the local community on how to address these problems and what the public believes to be the most effective solution. Most people were in favor of fund-raising and believed that our nation being undeveloped and the negative stereotype of orphans in society were the main causes of their issues. According to our secondary research, orphans living in developed countries like the USA, still have a small minority of people that hold negative opinions of them, and they face frequent difficulties in being adopted or be

admitted in a foster home, which usually is the case in USA, because of their race or ethnicity. In India, we learned that the root of the problem is that society does not give enough money to organizations that help orphans, and people are reluctant to adopt them due to the belief that they are a burden and because there is a lack of government support and help so they are reluctant to adopt.

Our outcome (flyer): Problems of Orphans
