“What We Lose When We Loosen Dress Codes”

Summary

In Rhonda Garelick's "What We Need to Know to Get Rid of Dress codes," the writer embarks on a journey to persuade the readers of the crucial role of dress codes in politics and society. Garelick points out that although the casual dress in the Senate can be considered a message of value for freedom, it is evidence of a big problem in gaining common ground in a highly polarized political stage. She argues that dressing is like speaking in linguistics figuratively; clothes speak clearly to an individual and can convey various general messages for the individual and society. Garelick developed her evaluation on the turn that gender equity has been taking due to the loosened dress code, and it is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that women face societal perspectives in the patriarchal world where they have to go through various challenges.

Later, she establishes things like modes of dress and their impacts in a Senate office through her words, the primary purpose of which is to show that clothing represents shared belief and unity. He does it so artfully that the reader must thoroughly analyze the garments worn by different people to connect the dots of dress and dialogue with politics and social norms.
